JACOB J. JANTZ, SR.

Jacob J. Jantz, Sr., son of Johann J. and Helena Janzen, was born in Kunghof, Waldheim, Russia, January 18, 1860.

In 1874, at the age of 14, he came to this country with his parents and settled in Kansas, where he lived for 16 years.

With his family he moved to Oklahoma in 1898. In 1910 they moved to Lahoma onto a farm where they lived until, on account of old age and infirmities, he moved to Enid where his daughters have so conscientiously taken care of him.

In March 1879 he was baptized upon the confession of his faith and accepted into the fellowship of the Mennonite Church.

March 11, 1881, he was married to Katharine Wedel with whome [sic] he shared joy and sorow [sic] until Nov. 4, 1928, when she was taken to be with her Saviour.

When he moved to Oklahoma, he transferred his membership to the New Hopedale Mennonite church and remained a member until his death.

The last years of his life he suffered very much and was bedfast for there [sic three] years and 10 months, but his daughters faithfully cared for him.

He leaves to mourn his passing five sons, John, Jacob Jr., and Joseph of Meno, Daniel and David of Lahoma; five daughters, Carolina, Leah, and Emilie of Enid, Lydia, Mrs. Thiessen of Independence, Kansas, and Hannah of Wichita, Kansas; 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and many other friends and relatives. Beside [sic] his wife, one daughter preceded him in death, in infancy. He was the last one of his generation to pass to the Great Beyond.

He died in the home of his daughter at 411 West Wabash, Enid, on Feb. 25, 1950, at the age of 90 years, one month and seven days.

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their lahours [sic]; and their works do follow them.” (Revelation 14:13).
