Mrs. Elizabeth Jantz

Mrs. Elizabeth Jantz, nee Ratzlaff, was born on the second day of July 1846 in the village of Antonofka, province of Wolhynia, Russia, whwere she also spent her youth and early womanhood. On July 4, 1862, she received the holy rite of baptism and united withe [sic] the Mennonite Church.

She was united in marriage to Benjamin Nachtigal and to this union three daughters were born. After the decease of her first husband she was married to Adam Jantz on August 27, 1871. Six children were born to them, all of which survive the mother.

In the fall of 1879 [sic 1874] the family came from Russia into this country. They came at once to Kansas and in the winter of 1874 settled on a farm in McPherson County a few miles north of Moundridge. After living on the farm a number of years they moved to Moundridge where they lived for many years. On the 24th of April 1928 her husband passed away at the home in Moundridge. Here too she departed this life.

Just eight months and four days after the death of her husband she too passed on at 8:10 A. M. December 28, 1928. Her age was 82 years 5 months and 26 days. She leaves to cherish her memory 6 daughters and 3 sons, 33 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many other relatives and friends. — Moundridge Journal.
