Aged Galva Man Dies of Burns

Galva, Kans. — Burns suffered in a fire in his room early Saturday morning, April 4, proved fatal some hours later to Ben Jantz, 94. He passed away at a McPherson hospital at 11:00 a.m.

The aged Mr. Jantz, who lived in an upstairs room at the home of his nephew, Edwin Jantz, tried to put out the flames by himself. He was found by his nephew, who carried him from the room unconscious. A bucket brigade was summoned by the telephone operator, and the fire was confined to one room.

It is believed the fire started from an electric heater.

Funeral services for Mr. Jantz, who had never married, were held April 8 at the Emmanuel church.
