Retired Missionary Dies at Mt. Lake

Word was received here that Mrs. Anna (Penner) Isaac, 80, who was a missionary on the General Conference field in India for 26 years, died Saturday morning, June 5, at Mt. Lake, Minn. after being hospitalized for one day.

Funeral services were conducted Monday forenoon at the Bethel Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake, with Rev. Walter Gering in charge. Rev. Lubin Jantzen spoke on behalf of the Commission on Overseas Mission and Rev. Orlando Waltner spoke as a former co-worker on the India field. Rev. Don Kaufman also took part in the service.

Mrs. Isaac was a native of the Mt. Lake community. She attended Bethel College and later engaged in mission work among Spanish-speaking people in Los Angeles under the General Conference board. In 1914 she married Ferd. J. Isaac, and they served in the Who-So-Ever Will Mission in Los Angeles and the pastorate of the Woodlake, Calif. Mennonite Church between 1914 and 1918.

In 1921 the Isaacs left for India, where they served together until Rev. Isaac's death on the field in 1946. They were stationed at Champa, Mauhadih and Janjgir. Mrs. Isaac returned to the homeland in 1947.

A son, Donald Isaac, of Newton survives.
