Martha L. Huxman

Martha L. Huxman, daughter of Henry A. and Mary Dester Huxman, was born at Arnold, Ness County, Kansas, August 16, 1890, and passed away July 30, 1941, at her home in Moundridge, at the age of 50 years, 11 months , and 14 days.

She moved with her parents to a place near Moundridge in 1893 where she made her home until 1929 when she moved to Moundridge. There she spent the remainder of her life. On June 3, 1906, she was baptized upon confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, uniting with the West Zion Mennonite church, where she remained a faithful member until her departure.

Sorrow entered Martha's life at an early age, by the death of her mother. Although in poor health all her life, she willingly and cheerfully accepted the responsibility of caring for her younger sisters and bothers [sic]. In 1931, sorrow again entered her life by the leath [sic] of her father. The last four years Martha was a shut-in; always bearing her suffering patiently and cheerfully even though the pain became increasingly severe.

She leaves to mourn her departure 3 brothers, R. R. and D. J. Huxman of near Moundridge, and H. E. Huxman of Walton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Frieda Schnieder [sic Schneider] of near Moundridge and Mary of the home, who faithfully cared for her sister to the end; 1 brother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, 7 nieces, 7 nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Rev. Walter Gering of the Eden Mennonite church officiated at the funeral, using the text the sister had selected: Psalm 27. Paul bearers were John Goertz, Fred Meyer, Dick Winsinger, Will Schmidt, Dave Galle and Jac. Decker.

A quartet composed of J. Warren Regier, Alfred Meyer, Wilson Rupp and Maynard Dyck, sang several numbers. Burial in the West Zion cemetery.
