Automobile Accident Near Newton Takes Life of Mrs. Inez Huxman
DAUGHTER SUFFERS INJURY IN ACCIDENT INVOLVING TWO TRANSPORT TRUCKS
An automobile tragedy six miles east of Newton last Thursday evening claimed the life of Mrs. Inex Huxman, wife of Henry Huxman living east of Newton. Mrs. Huxman was killed and her daughter Della seriously injured in an accident involving two empty gasoline transports and their car about six mile3s east of Newton shortly after 10 o'clock Thursday night. The drivers of the trucks were uninjured.
Riding ahead of the family car in a pickup truck, which had been used by the family in helping a neighbor family move, were her husband, Henry Huxman, cousin of Federal Judge Walter Huxman, and a son, Marvin.
The Huxmans were returning home after helping Dan Janzens move from Canton.
According to reports of the accident, both the transport trucks were headed east toward Newton. The car was completely demolished and was facing east when it stopped moving, although it was traveling west at the time of the accident.
Mr. and mrs. Huxman had been married 11 years and came to the Newton area from Moundridge two years ago. Surviving Mrs. Huxman in addition to her husband and the children, are her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Decker, of Moundridge.

— Many friends far and wide are deeply shocked over the great tragedy which came to Henry Huxman's home last week, of which a more complete report appears elsewhere in this paper. Besides the fatal injury of the mother, 10 year old Delia who was in the car with her had to be taken to the Bethel Hospital, also in critical condition. Funeral services for Mrs. Huxman were held at the West Zion church in Moundridge on Sunday afternoon. The Review extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family in this time of great sorrow.

Inez Lucille Huxman, daughter of Jacob and Ida Decker, was born July 1, 1910 near Tyron, Oklahoma, and she passed away August 1, 1940, near her home at Walton, Kansas. She reached the age of thirty years and one month. Death came instantly and tragically in an automobile accident Thursday evening as she was returning to her home.
She came to Kansas with her parents when only seven months old. Her family located on a farm four miles east and one mile north of Moundridge, which is still the family home. Here Inez received her early Christian training and education. She received her Confirmation and was baptized April 10, 1924 and she became a member of the West Zion Mennonite church of Moundridge where she still held her membership at the time of her death. She received her early education at the South Happy Hollow school and from there she went to the Moundridge high school; graduating in May, 1929.
The following fall, on October 10, 1929 she was united in marriage to Henry Huxman of the Moundridge community. To this union were born four children. They lived the first eight years of their married life near Moundridge. Two years ago, they moved to a farm near Walton where they still have their home. Here they quickly took their place in the life of the community and they soon had many new friends and neighbors. She helped organize a Sunday School in Walton so that her children, together with the other children of the Walton community might have Christian training. She was constantly active in all types of Christina work, being a teacher of a Sunday School class at the time of her death.
Inez was a kind and loving wife and mother and she worked long hours that she might have a real home for her loved ones. She will be sadly missed by her immediate family, relatives and a host of friends and neighbors. She was truly a lovable woman, a friend to all.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, August 4th. Services in Walton were held in the high school community building at three o'clock with Rev. J. D. Schmidt of the 1st Congregational church of Newton officiating. The Walton quartet composed of Harvey Wedel, Harold Schmidt, Rudy Woelk, and Jake Schmidt sang "Beautiful Life" and "God's Book". Alvera Voth accompanied them on the piano. The services in Moundridge were at 5:00 o'clock from the West Zion Mennonite church with the church pastor, Rev. P. K. Regier in charge. The "Guhr quartet", John, Arnold, Sam and Dan Guhr sang "Beautiful Life" and "Will the Circle be Unbroken". Miss Helen Voth was at the piano. Mrs. Weldon Roup played the church organ. The Ghur [sic Guhr] brothers also sang "Going Down the Valley" at the graveside. Pallbearers were Emery Spangler, Jess Tallerday, Albert Meetz, Jake Thiesen, Will Vogt and Alvin Woelk.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her four children; Delia, age ten; Marvin, eight years; Joan, six years and Wiley, five years old. Also her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Decker of Moundridge, Kansas; her grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Decker of Moundridge; five brothers and sisters-in-law — Orville and wife Margaret of Elbing, Kansas; LaVerne and wife Sadie of Peabody, Kansas; Glenn and wife Gladys of Burns, Kansas; Dwight and Dwayne of the Home. Brothers-in-law are: R. R. Huxman and wife, Esther, D. J. Huxman and wife, Elma, all of Moundridge. Sisters-in-law are Mrs. Frank Schnieder [sic Schneider]; Martha and Mary Huxman, also of Moundridge. One sister, Twila preceeded [sic] her in death, April 29, 1923.
Interment was made in the Mennonite Cemetery at Moundridge under the direction of the Morris Mortuary of Newton.
