TITUS H. HOSTETLER

Titus H. Hostetler was born Oct. 19, 1897 in McPherson County, Kansas to Henry E. and Salome (Slabach) Hostetler, the sixth of 14 children. He passed away at the Harper Hospital on June 7, 1982 at age 84.

After his early years the family traveled by covered wagon to Protection and in 1909 moved to a farm in Harper County.

Titus accepted Christ as his personal Savior early in life and was baptized into the fellowship of the Mennonite Church. For many years he enjoyed singing tenor in various quartets at Pleasant Valley.

He was married to Helena Marguerite Bergman in her rural Harper home June 1, 1924 and together they celebrated 58 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his wife of the home; one son, Duane of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren Leland and Brenda of Goshen, Ind., Barbara of Morton, Ill., Lonnie and Wanda of Harper, Don of Norton, Roland and Kathy of Wichita, Melinda Wiggins, Karen and Julis Mills and Duane, Jr., all of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Amra of Harper, Leo of Hesston and Pius of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Ida Sommerfeld and Stella Yoder of Hesston and Jaunita [Juanita] Ramer of Canby, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.

Throughout life Titus displayed the virtue of patience. Eleven years ago he was injured in a fall and suffered a stroke. He displayed extraordinary courage and regained reasonable health to enjoy his remaining years. Titus will be missed by his family and many friends.
