text of obituary:

JOHN YODER HOSTETLER

John Yoder Hostetler, son of Jeptha E. and Selina Yoder Hostetler, was born Sept. 19, 1887; died suddenly of a heart attack, May 10, 1954, aged 66 years, seven months, 21 days.

He is survived by his wife, Katie E. (Yoder) Hostetler; four children, Harvey J. of Reedsville, Pa., John M., Mary (Mrs. John M. Yoder), and Esther Kathryn at home; also three foster children, Helen Buchka, Herbert and Harold Wilson. One son preceded him in death as a child.

As a young man he confessed Christ as His Saviour. As a member of the Locust Grove Mennonite church Belleville, Pa., he was a faithful worker, doing what the Lord had for him to do in a quiet way, concerned for the welfare of the church and individuals.

He had been a member of the Grantsville, Md. Orphans Home Board and his ability as a counselor was much appreciated. His interest in the work was in evidence as a board members [sic] and also in the fact that he and his devoted wife gave of their time and substance to provide a home for several of these homeless ones, who have appreciated this love and care.

In 1950 he also sponsored two displaced persons families from Europe, through the M. C. C., providing homes for them until they became self-supporting. He had a large circle of friends who will miss him, as will his immediate family.

The funeral services on May 13 were held at the home near Belleville, and were conducted by Jacob Weirich, who read Psa. 130, a favorite of Bro. Hostetler, and led in prayer after brief remarks. E B. Peachey preached the sermon. Burial was made in the Locust Grove cemetery.
