Pioneer Nampa, Idaho Veterinarian Dies

DR. F. H. HOSTETLER PRACTICED IN BOISE VALLEY FOR 50 YEARS

Nampa, Idaho. — Dr. F. H. Hostetler, 81, pioneer veterinary of Boise Valley, died here Monday evening, Feb. 20, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at the Alsip Chapel, Ministers D. A. Good, Robert Garber and Harold Hochstetler officiating. Burial was made in Kahlerlawn cemetery here.

Dr. Hostetler was born near Goshen, Ind. on March 22, 1874. At the age of 10 he moved with his parents to McPherson, Kan., where he grew to manhood and attended McPherson College. He also attended the Elkhart Institute at Elkhart, Ind. After teaching school for six years, he prepared to be a veterinary.

He was married to Dessie Yoder of Garden City, Mo., in 1898. They came to Boise Valley in 1905, and in 1906 moved to Nampa, where he followed the profession of veterinary for 50 years.

Dr. Hostetler was a life-long member of the (Old) Mennonite Church. In the early years at Nampa he was Sunday school superintendent and teacher, later being elected mission board member and church treasurer. He was a member of the Idaho Veterinary Assoc. and served as city councilman for many years.

In addition to his wife, who was his right-hand helper in his profession, he leaves a son, Leo F. of Boise; two daughters, Vertie (Mrs. Harold Bailey) and Adelia (Mrs. C. S. Roth), both of Nampa; seven grand children and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Dr. Orval Hostetler, and a daughter Anna Velma preceded him in death.
