Well-Known Lancaster Conf. Bishop Dies

Ephrata, Pa. — Funeral services for Amos S. Horst, 69, well-known bishop of the Lancaster Conference, were conducted Friday afternoon, Jan. 4, at the Ephrata Mennonite Church. He died at the hospital here on New Year's day after a nine-day illness. A large number attended the viewing on Thursday evening in Akron.

Bishop Horst, who resided in Akron, was chairman of the Lancaster conference bishop's board and secretary of the missions council. In this capacity he made four trips to Europe and Africa to visit mission fields.

A minister and carpenter, he was ordained in 1918 and had served the church for 44 years. He had been a bishop for the past 29 years, having bishop oversight of the Hammer Creek District.

Surviving are his wife, the former Nora S. Stoner; his parents, Rubin [sic Reuben] W. and Frances Horst of Akron; and 12 brothers and sisters.
