— Minister Leonard W. Hoover, a pastor of the Wideman congregation at Markham, Ontario, since 1914 died at his home there Wednesday, June 13, after a long illness. He was a member of this church since young manhood, and had served it faithfully in many capacties [sic]. Funeral services were in charge of Minsters Emerson McDowell, A. L. Fretz, S. F. Coffman and Moses Roth.

L. W. HOOVER

North Markham, Ontario. Leonard W. Hoover passed peacefully away at his late home, lot 25, concession 8, Markham Township on June 13, 1945, after an illness of about six months, caused by a tumorous growth on the hip. He was born on Jan. 21, 1884, on the place where he lived all his life, and died at the age of 61 years, 4 months an 23 days.

He was married to Susanna Wideman on Jan. 31, 1906, and was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Wideman Mennonite church, and was ordained to the ministry on Oct. 11, 1914, by Bishop Jonas Snider of Waterloo Co., Ontario, which position he faithfully filled for over 20 years, until he was compelled by ill health to retire.

He was the only son of Peter R. and Mary (Williamson) Hoover and is survived by his wife and the following children: Etta (Mrs. Aaron Grove) Eva (Mrs. Harvey Burkholder) Ernest, Mary, Ada, Maurice, Leonard and Willis, also ten grandchildren.

Funeral service on Friday afternoon, June 15, at the home was conducted by Rev. Emerson McDowell, Markham, and at the Wideman church by Bishop A. Lewis Fretz of Selkirk, Ont., his co-labourer in the ministry for a number of years. Pall bearers were: Allan Wideman, Elmore Barkey, Andrew Steiner, Joseph Reesor, Russel Grove, and Albert Wideman.
