— The Professor Walter H. Hohmann family was called to Deer Creek, Okla. last week because of the sudden death of Professor Hohmann's father, J. H. Hohmann, who died of heart attack. The aged father was fatally stricken Thursday morning as he had gone out to feed the chickens and was found dead in the yard. He had suffered from an heart ailment for some time but was able to be up and around again last week. He was 77 years of age. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Deer Creek Mennonite church, conducted by Rev. H. E. Miller. Having moved to Oklahoma 45 years ago, Mr. Hohmann was a widely known farmer of the Deer Creek community and a charter member of the Mennonite church there. Besides the deeply bereaved wife, the following children survive: Prof. Hohmann of North newton; Carl and Lloyd of Deer Creek; Mrs. O J. Moyer, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Bruce Ball of Cheney, Kansas.

JUSTUS HENRY HOHMANN

Jutus [sic Justus] Henry Hohmann was born January 15, 1867, at Kuechen Hessen, Kassel, Germany, the fourth of five children of John and Anna Hohmann. In 1884 at the age of 17 he came to the United States.

After spending one year in Iowa he came to Halstead, Kansas, to be with his brother Adam Hohmann. He soon started working for and had his home with the John Kuehny family, where he learned to know Elizabeth, to whom he was married on December 20, 1891.

They lived on a farm near Halstead for about eight years, moved to Deer Creek, Okla., in 1899, and settled on the farm which has since been the family home.

While in Halstead he joined the Mennonite church, and later became a charter member of the Mennonite church of deer Creek.

He was in good health until the first of this year when the heart ailment developed which caused his sudden death on September 28, 1944. He attained the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 13 days.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Oscar and Paul, and leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Elizabeth; son Lloyd of the home; Walter and family of North Newton, Kansas; Karl and family of Deer Creek; Ruth and family of Tulsa, Okla.; Lois and family of Cheney, Kansas.
