ROSALINA ORTIZ HOFER

Rosalina Ortiz Hofer was born Nov. 9, 1928 to Visitacion and Julia Hernandez Ortiz in the countryside near Aibonito, P. R. She died on Aug. 10, 1981 at the age of 52.

Her childhood was spent on the mountains of Puerto Rico, where she attended grade school in La Plata. She started high school in Aibonito, but later transferred to the Baptist Academy at Barranquitas. Later she was baptized and became a member of the Betania Mennonite Church.

In 1949 she came to Hesston (Kan.) College, where she received nurse's training. She accepted a position in the Freeman (S. D.) Community Hospital.

She was married to Raymond Hofer on May 17, 1953 in the Hutterthal Mennonite church. Their first two years of marriage were spent in Denver, Colo., where he was in 1-W service and she completed schooling in x-ray technology. They returned to the Freeman area to spend 26 years together in farming and small business.

She will always be remembered as a warm, loving and outgoing person, extremely active in community and church affairs. She led a healthy life until two years ago when she began a series of hospitalizations.

She leaves her husband; children, Cynthia (Mrs. David) Graber, Nanette, Kim, Amy and Dennie; a brother, Oswaldo Ortiz; three sisters, Luz Neida Ortiz, Julita de Torres and Juana Alvarado de Medina.

Services were held at Hutterthal Mennonite Church, Freeman, on Aug. 13, with Louis Goertz in charge. Interment was at Hutterthal Mennonite Cemetery.
