Two In Ohio Family Killed On Highway

MRS. AMOS HILTY AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW DIE AS CARS COLLIDE

Pandora, Ohio. — A fatal auto accident near Norwalk, Ohio Wednesday morning, June 10, claimed the lives of Mrs. Amos Hilty, 75, of Pandora and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sidney Hilty, 54, of Mt. Blanchard. Both were instantly killed when the Hilty car swerved into an oncoming car, throwing all of the occupants out on the highway.

Injured were Sidney Hilty, 53, who suffered rib fractures; his son Donald, 24, who had face cuts and bruises; another son David, 15, and Amos Hilty, 79, both of whom had minor injuries and suffered from shock.

Funeral services for Mrs. Amos Hilty were held at the St. John Mennonite church here, of which she was a member. Her daughter-in-law was a member of the Mt. Blanchard Methodist church.

The family was en route to Cleveland to attend the graduation of the Sidney Hilty’s daughter, Jean, from Western Reserve university. While traveling on a curved road over a hill, the driver, Donald Hilty swerved to avoid an oncoming car which was over the danger line. The Hilty car skidded on the wet pavement and struck the rear of the other vehicle.

Mrs. Hilty, a lifelong resident of this community, is survived by four children, Sidney of Mt. Blanchard, Mrs. Frank Krohn of Pandora, Rev. Myron Hilty of Custer, Wash., and Herbert of Pandora; 12 grandchildren and one-great grandchild; a brother Tillman Geiger of Pandora; and a number of half brothers and sisters.
