Amish Twins Killed When Auto Rams Buggy Near Berne

Berne, Ind. — The six-month-old twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Joni E. Hilty of rural Geneva were killed and their mother critically injured when an auto drawn buggy near here at 12:20 a.m. Sept. 16.

Funeral services for Peter E. and Jonas E. Hilty were conducted at the Amos Hilty home on Sept. 19.

The Hiltys were returning home after a visit when a speeding auto crashed into the rear of the buggy on U.S.-27 near here. The buggy was demolished and its parts scattered along the highway for some distance. The infants died instantly. The horse was killed and was thrown into the roadside ditch.

Mrs. Hilty suffered fractures of the back and skull, and her husband has a broken leg. Both were taken to the Bluffton Clinic.
