— Funeral services were held at Hillsboro last Saturday for J. J. Hiebert, prominent Hillsboro farmer, who passed away at the Axtell Christian hospital in Newton on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Death came to Mr. Hiebert after an illness of but short duration. Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite church in Hillsboro.

Jacob J. Hiebert, son of Johann and Marie Loewen Hiebert, was born June 16, 1870, in Friedensfeld, south Russia, and departed this life on February 8, 1938. He reached the age of 67 years, 7 months, and 22 days.
In 1874 he, with his parents, migrated to America, settling at Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. One year later they moved to Kansas, on a farm near Hillsboro. Here he received his elementary education. On September 15, 1880, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith and received into the Hillsboro Mennonite church by Rev. John S. Hirschler. He remained a faithful member of this church until his departure.
On March 17, 1895, he was united in marriage to Eva Schmidt. They shared joys and sorrow for nearly 43 years. To this union were born 13 children, five of whom preceded him in death. He was a loving husband and father, sincerly [sic] interested in the welfare of others, helping wherever his health permitted. He suffered much during his life, and this was increased when he lost his left hand in 1922. In January 23, he took seriously sick, and he was removed to the Axtell Christian hospital in Newton for medical treatment and care, and there he died.
He leaves to mourn his departure his widow, three sons, Edmund, Dan, and Ruben, all of Hillsboro; five daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wiebe, Newton, Mrs. Marie Unruh, Newport, Washington, Mrs. Margaret Hein, Hillsboro, Esther, Wichita, and Ruth at home; two daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, 20 grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, and a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held February 12, at 2:30 p.m. in the Hillsboro Mennonite church, Rev. J. H. Epp and Rev. J. D. Jantzen conducting the services. — The bereaved family.
