— Edmund S. Hiebert, 65, died suddenly last Sunday at his home on Route 2, Hillsboro. Funeral services are to be held Thursday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. John Thiessen officiating. A native of the Elbing community, Mr. Hiebert had lived on the same farm near Hillsboro since his marriage to Agatha Schmidt in 1919. She preceded him in death in 1949. In 1951 he was married to Susanna Dueck, who survives with four daughters, two sons, three step-children, four sisters, one brother and 22 grandchildren.

EDMUND S. HIEBERT

Edmund S. Hiebert, the oldest son of Jacob and Eva Schmidt Hiebert, was born May 23, 1896, at Elbing, Kan. He with his parents moves to Hitchcock, Okla. when he was a small child. They moved to Hillsboro, Kan. in September 1902. In 1913 he entered Hillsboro Preparatory School, from which he graduated in 1915.

On June 1, 1913, he was baptized upon his confession of faith by H. D. Penner and was received into the Hillsboro Mennonite Church. On Dec. 19, 1919, he was united in marriage to Agatha Schmidt of the Alexanderwohl Church. This marriage was solemnized by Rev. P. H. Unruh. To this union three sons and four daughters were born. One son, Salomon, at the age of 21, preceded him in death.

On Sept. 11, 1939, the family transferred their membership to the Alexanderwohl Church.

His first wife, the mother of his children, passed away March 30, 1949. They shared life's joys and sorrows for almost 30 years. On Oct. 12, 1951, he was married to Susanna Dueck, in Winkler, Man., by Rev. J. M. Pauls. She had three children whom he accepted as his own. They shared life's joys and sorrows for almost 10 years. During the entire span of his married life, he lived on a farm southwest of Hillsboro.

He was a faithful member of the church and served as Sunday school teacher for approximately 12 years. He was a faithful and loving father, having had devotions with his family and directing the children toward Christ and encouraging them to follow our Lord faithfully.

Most of his life he enjoyed good health until last year when a heart condition was discovered. On Sunday, July 9, 1961, while preparing to go to church, he was suddenly called to the eternal home.

He leaves to mourn his untimely passing, his bereaved widow; the children of his first marriage — Sylvia and her husband Jake Schmidt, Velma and her husband Abe Flaming, both of Hillsboro; Anna Mae and her husband Floyd Janzen, Hesston; Leland her husband Richard Goertz, Walton; Ervin and his wife Betty, Newton; Johnny and his wife Emmalyn [sic Emmalyne], Hutchinson; the three step-children — Mary and her husband Jake Richert, Hillsboro; Henry and his wife Eileen, Denver, Colo.; Susan and her husband Irvin Voth, Amman, Jordan.

He also leaves 22 grandchildren, one brother, Ruben Hiebert of Newton; four sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Dave Wiebe), Newton, Marie (Mrs. Pete Unruh), Colfax, Wash., Esther (Mrs. Walter Lindteigen), Hillsboro; Ruth (Mrs. Henry Hiebert), Aberdeen, Idaho; and a host of relatives and friends. — Mrs. Susanna Hiebert and Family.
