BEN H. HIEBERT

Ben H. Hiebert, son of Henry M. and Katherine Doerkson Hiebert, was born on Aug. 13, 1897, in Harvey county, Kan. He had made his home in McPherson since 1932, and had served as assistant cashier of the Home State bank since 1938.

Ben was raised in a Christian home. He was baptized July 1917, and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren church of Goessel. He transferred his membership to the Baptist church in 1938, and throughout his life took a special interest in serving his Saviour and his church. In a quiet and unassuming way his influence through his deep faith and devotion was felt by many. He was chairman of the board of trustees of the First Baptist church and was active in civic work in the program of the Kiwanis club where he was a charter member and treasurer.

After being ill for the past four weeks, he entered into eternal rest at the McPherson hospital on July 26, 1958, at the age of 61 years. His devoted companion, the former Elsie Esther Wedel, to whom he was united in marriage in Jan. 1, 1939, preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1955. His sister, Mrs. Gust Faul, and brothers, Jacob and John, also preceded him in death.

Surviving members of his family include three sisters, Mrs. H. E. Wiens, Mrs. Albert Vogt and Mrs. Clarence Wohlgemuth; and three brothers C. H. Herman and Paul Hiebert.

The memorial service was conducted by Rev. C. Clayton Browne on July 29, 1959, at two o'clock in the First Baptist church. His last resting place is the McPherson cemetery.
