Well-Known Lancaster County, Pa. Church Leaders Called by Death

SERVICES HELD FOR BISHOP HENRY LUTZ AND REV. JACOB G. HESS

Lancaster, Pa. — Two well-known Mennonite church leaders of the Lancaster County area were called away in death within recent weeks.

Funeral services were held at the Mount Joy Mennonite church for Bishop Henry E. Lutz, widely known bishop and minister of the Mount Joy congregation who also had bishop oversight of the Chestnut Hill, Landisville and East Petersburg congregations and several mission churches.

Bishop Lutz died at Lancaster General hospital where he was receiving treatment following a stroke of paralysis suffered in late November while conducting revival meetings at the Beaver Run Mennonite church in Monitor county.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Nissley Lutz, and three children: Mrs. Glen (Florence) Miller of Atglen, Pa., Anna Lutz, R. N. of Lancaster, and John Henry of Mount Joy.

Services were held at the Millersville Mennonite church for Rev. Jacob G. Hess, 76, who retired about five years ago after serving as pastor of the Rohrerstown and Millersville churches for 34 years. Rev. and Mrs. Hess observed their 52nd wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.

He leaves his wife, the former Katie Charles, seven children and 22 grandchildren.
