MARTHA INEZ HERSHEY

Martha Inez Hershey, daughter of Samuel and Elisabeth Ann (Landes) Wenger, was forn Feb. 26, 1894 at Canton, Kan. She passed away at Sanatorium, Miss. on Oct. 31, 1962, aged 68 years, eight months, and five days. Her death was caused by a heart attack, following a prolonged illness.

On Dec. 18, 1927, she was married to Paul Hershey, who survives. One daughter, Betty Jane, preceded her mother in 1938. Besides her husband, she is survived by one brother, Daniel Wenger, Ceres, Cal.; five sisters, Mrs. E. J. Hershey (Nora), Gulfport, Miss., her twin sister, Mary, Mrs. J. J. Detwiler, and Mrs. Cora Vogt, Hesston, Kan., Mrs. A. Good (Anna), Nampa, Idaho, and Mrs. Ernest Garber (Barbara), Brownsville, Ore..

She was a graduate of Hesston Academy, 1915. She came to Gulfport, Miss. as a bride and has lived there ever since. She gave her full measure of love, service, and devotion to her home, her church, and community.

Since 1952 she has not been well, but her courage and Christian fortitude were an inspiration to her many friends. Whenever health permitted, she was always busy doing work for the WMSA or the needy near home. Her life truly “adorned the gospel.”

Funeral services were held at the Gulfhaven Mennonite Church on Nov. 4, in charge of Paul Yoder and Orlo Kaufman. Interment was in Gulfhaven cemetery.
