ELMER HERSHEY

Elmer Hershey, son of Jacob M. and Mary Eby Hershey, was born Jan. 24, 1884 at Byerstown, Pa.; died Aug. 21, 1959 at the Gulfport, Miss. Memorial hospital after a short illness.

In 1892 the family moved to Palmyra, Mo., and in 1927 they went to live at La Junta, Colo.

He was married Dec. 23, 1908 to Nora Wenger of Canton, Kansas, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter Mary and a son, Samuel both at home; a brother, Paul J., and two sisters, Eva, Mrs. Alvin Evers and Martha, Mrs. Sherman Kauffman, all of La Junta, Colo.; and a brother, I. E. Hershey of Gulfport, Miss.

Elmer united with the Mennonite church early in life and was a charter member of the Palmyra, Mo. congregation when it was organized with J. M. Kreider as minister and Daniel Kauffman as bishop.

On Match 18, 1922 the family moved to Gulfport, Miss. from La Junta, Colo. In April 1931 he was ordained deacon for the Gulfhaven congregation at Gulfport, holding this office until death claimed him.

To describe our brother's life in a few words — he lived, by the grace of God, as the Bible teaches men to live.
