Crushed Under Bed Of Dump Truck

Sugarcreek, Ohio. — Funeral services were held at the Conservative A. M. church near Berlin on Jan. 1 for John M. Hershberger, 33, who was instantly killed Dec. 29 when his head was crushed under the bed of his dump truck at the Mullet coal mine near Mt Eaton.

Mr. Hershberger was hauling coal for the mine, and had just unloaded at the tipple when the tragedy occurred. Although alone at the time, it is believed he was leaning over to make adjustments on the dumping device when the truck bed came down on him. The body was found by Dennis Weaver, an employee of the mine.

He is survived by his wife and three year old son; his mother, Mrs. Eli Miller of Route 2, Orrville; and a number of brothers and sisters.
