SERVICES HELD IN IOWA FOR AMISH BISHOP, VICTIM OF HORSE’S KICK
Kalona, Iowa. — Funeral services were held in the Amish community near here Oct. 13 for Bishop Edwin Hershberger, 59, who was fatally injured when kicked by a horse at his farm on Oct. 10. A large congregation attended the funeral.
The fatal accident occurred when he stopped to open a gate on the way home from the field, one of the horses kicking him in the head. He passed away at the hospital the same evening without regaining consciousness.
His ordination as a bishop took place here May 12, 1924. Surviving are his wife, six children, 14 grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, one of whom, Ruth Hershberger, is a polio patient in Iowa City.
