BISHOP OF OLD ORDER AMISH CHURCH DIES AT HUTCHINSON

Hutchinson, Kan. — Funeral services were held Saturday morning, June 14, at the Dan M. Yoder home for Levi Helmuth, 80, well-known bishop of the Old Order Amish church near here. He died June 11 after a lingering illness.

Bishop Helmuth was born in Holmes County, Ohio on Oct. 23, 1877, but had lived in Reno County, Kan. since his youth. He was ordained to the ministry in 1937 and as bishop in 1943, serving faithfully in that capacity as long as health permitted.

In 1900 he was married to Rebecca Mast, who survives with two sons and two daughters: Eli of Harrison, Ark., Alvin of Grove City, Minn., Mrs. Dan M. Yoder and Mrs. Joe N. Yutzy, both of rural Hutchinson. Also surviving are a brother, Ben of Arcola, Ill, 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were in charge of Bishop John D. Yoder, assisted by Jonas P. Yoder and David L. Miller.
