KATHERINE EDIGER HEINZ

Katherine Ediger Heinz was born in Caddo County south of Hydro, Okla. on Jan. 28, 1907. She passed from this life on July 1 in the hospital in Chicago, Ill., reaching the age of 56 years, five months, and two days.

As a child Katherine moved with her parents to the Corn, Okla. community. It was here that she received most of her education and grew to maturity.

Upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, she was baptized on Sept. 6, 1925 by Rev. John Flaming in the Bergthal Mennonite Church of which she remained a faithful and active member until her death.

On August 18, 1929, she was united in marriage to Arthur Heinz. To this union were born two sons and one daughter. She was a “mother” to others besides her own children, and the sphere of her love has been deeply felt by them.

Katherine assumed an active role in community life through the years, especially in working with the public in business places in Corn. She always enjoyed working with people, who came to appreciate her genuine and cheerful spirit in every circumstance. She had many friends with whom her Christian influence and testimony will long remain.

Six months ago it became evident that she was suffering from malignancy. Surgery and cobalt treatment were followed with extensive medication in the Masonic Hospital in Chicago. The latter treatment was helpful in easing her pain and enabling her to enjoy the last several months of her life with her family. Two weeks ago she returned to Chicago for a routine checkup. It soon became evident that the extent of the malignancy was overwhelming. Katherine never complained during her whole illness, remaining calm and courageous through it all. She expressed her faith steadfastly in the face of death, and passed quietly to rest at the summons of her Lord.

Surviving are her husband, Arthur; two sons, Tom of Mishawaka, Ind. and Gordon of Clinton, Okla.; one daughter, Joan, Mrs. Dale Everett of Elm Creek, Neb.; four brothers, Barney of Woodburn, Oregon, Albert and Paul of Liberal, Kan., and Bill of Yuma, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Henry Heinz of Corn; one granddaughter, Lori Heinz, and a host of relatives and friends.
