Reedley Young Man Fatally Injured When Struck By Car

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH ON APRIL 25

Reedley, Calif. — Elvin E. Heinrichs, 22, was killed on Saturday evening, April 20, near Dinuba, when bicycles ridden by himself and Mrs. Heinrichs were struck by a car. Mrs. Heinrichs was sent to Fresno county hospital with leg and arm fractures but is expected to recover.

The accident occured as Heinrichs, a ministerial student, and his recent bride were leaving Dinuba on their bicycles to return to their home in Reedley. A car driven by Henry Friesen of Reedley turned out to pass another car and the driver failed to see the bicycles coming from the other direction. He struck Mr. Heinrichs and grazed Mrs. Heinrichs, throwing her off to the side of the road.

The driver was not held as officials said the Heinrichs bicycles were not equipped with lights.

Funeral services took place at the Mennonite Brethren church in Reedley at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, April 25, with Rev. George Huebert officiating. Burial was made in the Reedley cemetery.

Mr. Heinrichs is survived by his window [sic] Billie Jean; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Heinrichs; and four brothers and six sisters.
