Trouble in Beer Garden Proves Fatal to Oklahoman.
Joplin, Mo., May 7. — Leroy (Chalk") Hayman, 27, athletic coach at the Picher, Okla., high school, and a former star athlete at Oklahoma A & M college, at Stillwater, died in a hospital here today after he was shot in the abdomen in a beer garden over the Missouri state line west of Joplin early this morning.
Carl B. Townsend, 38, and Frank Jones, 28, both of Parsons, Kan., are held in police custody here in connection with the shooting.
Officers said Hayman was shot at 3:20 a. m. in a beer garden opeated by Harry Gray, Galena, Kan., and he died at 7 a. m.
