On April 24, 1904, he was united in marriage to Martha Steider, who survives.

Twelve children were born to this union. Surviving are Floyd of Ontario, Calif., Lester of Julesburg, Colo., William L. of Milford, Neb., Harry of Milford, Neb., Wilda of Downey, Calif., Mrs. Velma Engle of Redondo Beach, Calif., Clayton of Milford, Neb., Mrs. Elda Stanford of Greer, South Carolina, Mrs. Hazel Dickinson of Orange, Calif., Mrs. Myrtle Rediger of Downey, Calif., and Mrs. Lois Drawbond of Bellflower, Calif.; two brothers, Emanuel of Long Beath [sic Beach], Calif. and William of Milford, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. John (Lena) Miller of Milford, Neb.; and 31 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. An infant daughter, Mabel, preceded him in death.

He accepted Christ in his youth and was baptized into the Mennonite Church. He was true and faithful to the Lord and his church.

Most of his life was spent in Milford, Neb. where he farmed, moving to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1942.

Five things our father enjoyed in his life were family devotions, Wednesday evening prayer meetings, sacred singing, flowers, and family gatherings. Ten hours before his death he spoke these six words,"Open the way. Oh the gate."
