SIMON C. HARTZLER

Simon Cleophas Hartzler, 83, long-time farmer in the Wakarusa, Ind. area, died Jan. 10 in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Harman of rural Goshen. He had been an invalid for nearly three years.

He was born March 231, 1879, near Howe, Ind., the oldest son of Jonathan B. and Esther (Hooley) Hartzler, and grew up in Logan County, O. Following his marriage to Magdalene Beutler of Wakarusa on Dec. 9, 1903, he spent the rest of his life in the Wakarusa community except for one winter in Florida. His wife died July 13, 1958.

Surviving are six children; Mrs. Elber [sic Elmer] Hartman, Roy and Mahlon Hartzler and Mrs. Irven Good, all of the Goshen vicinity, John of Elkhart, and Robert of Morton, Ill.; 36 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, David J. of West Liberty, O., and Harvey of Marshallville, O.; and a sister, Mrs. Ira Eigsti of Hesston, Kan.

Services were held at the Olive Mennonite church with Rev. Harold Myers, pastor of the Salem Mennonite Church, in charge. Mr. Hartzler was a member of the Salem Mennonite congregation. Burial was made in the Olive Cemetery.
