Former EMC Librarian Dies at Smithville, O.
Harrisonburg, Va. — Funeral services for Sadie A. Hartzler, 76, librarian emeritus at Eastern Mennonite College, were held Aug. 15 at the Smithville, Ohio Mennonite Church.
Miss Hartzler died at Smithville on Aug. 12 after several years of illness.
A graduate of Eastern Mennonite School with the class of 1922, she returned in 1926 to teach English and mathematics. She was named librarian two years later and served as full-time librarian from 1945 until her retirement in 1961.
During her tenure library holdings at EMC increased from a few hundred to more than 20,000.
