Resident of Rittman, O. Home Dies at Age 99

Orville, Ohio. — Complications from a broken leg suffered in a fall claimed the life of Joseph K. Hartzler, 99, who died Jan. 4 at the Osteopathic Hospital here.

Formerly a resident of the Smithville community, Mr. Hartzler had been a guest at the Rittman Mennonite Home for the past 13 years. During his stay there he became well known for his wood carvings. In earlier years he worked as a farmer, painter and paper hanger.

Funeral services were held at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, of which he was a member.

The last surviving member of his family, he leaves a large family of descendants including four great-great-grandchildren.
