DAN HARMS

Dan Harms, son of Andrew G. and Anna Harms, was born near Whitewater, Kan. on Sept. 28, 1897. He passed away at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton on Feb. 13, 1963, following surgery from which complications developed during his four week stay in the hospital.

With the blessing of a Christian home and church, Dan accepted the Lord as his Savior, was baptized by Rev. G. N. Harms, and received as a member of the Grace hill Mennonite Church on June 11, 1918 where he remained a faithful member throughout his lifetime.

On August 23, 1928, he was united in marriage to Pearl Lillian Voth, who survives. To this happy union were born two sons, Homer Lee and Wayne Eldon, both of Newton.

Dan found many opportunities daily to testify for his Lord both in word and deed. He served his church and community well, having held numerous offices in the church and local school district. For the past ten years he was trustee of Pleasant Township, retiring this year due to his health.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bertha. Survivors include his wife, Pearl; two sons, Wayne and Homer; a daughter-in-law, Elma Harms; a grandson, Marvin Lee Harms; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Amelia) Riesen and her husband of rural Newton; also numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Truly it can be said of Dan, he was a friend of many.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 16 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church with Rev. J. J. Voth and Rev. Waldo Kaufman officiating. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.
