WELL-KNOWN BUILDER AT ALTONA, MANITOBA CALLED BY DEATH

Altona, Man. — Jacob D. Harder, 77, builder and school secretary, died at his home here on Thursday, May 27, following a stroke which had confined him to his bed for five weeks preceding his death. Funeral services were held from the Bergthaler church with Bishop David Schultz officiating.

Mr. Harder’s chief occupation was that of master carpenter. Many Altona homes and business places are his handiwork. He was in charge of the construction of the Bergthaler church in 1912 and again when this structure was rebuilt in 1944. He built the Mennonite Educational Institute, and the groceteria section of the local co-op store, as well as hundreds of smaller structures.
