Mt. Lake, Minn., July 11. — Mrs. Jacob Harder, mother of Mr. P. J. Harder, passed away at the Old People's Home on Wednesday evening, July 10. Funeral services were conducted at the First Mennonite Church on Sunday afternoon, Rev. I. J. Dick having charge of the services.
Mrs. Harder was born in the Mennonite colony Bergthal in South Russia, Apr. 23, 1838. On Oct 31, 1857, she became the wife of Mr. Jac. Harder. After joining the other emigrants to America, they settled on a farm northeast of Butterfield where they spent the years from 1876 until 1884. Then they moved to the village of Butterfield where they opened a general store.
Ten years later Mr. Harder died and the last 37 years his wife remained a widow. Later Mrs. Harder moved to her children and spent three and one-half years with the Abr. J. Goertzen family.
The last 15 months she spent in the Old People's Home here in Mountain Lake. She reached the ripe age of 92 years two months and four days. Her strength failed her finally and the hour of death came.
The deceased was mother of 8 sons and 4 daughters. Six children preceded her in death. Of the 34 grandchildren, 3 died and of the 34 great grandchildren 22 are living. — Mt. Lake View.
