Helena Hanneman

Helena Hanneman was born as the first child of William and Helena Krause on the 22nd day of march, 1855, in the village Fuerstenau, Russia. The early days of her childhood were spent under the believing roof of her good parents; but at the age of sixteen this happiness was saddened by the early death of her father, and, four years later she lost her mother. On the twelfth day of November, 1874, she was married to Mr. John Hanneman. Twelve children were born to them, seven sons and five daughters.

In the year 1876 both parents accepted salvation by faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, and upon their confession were baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren church. They left the old home in 1883 and came to America where they found a new place of residence in Marion County, Kansas. Death laid claim to her husband on the 22nd day of March, 1908, leaving her to journey alone for twenty years. She stayed with the children on the old farm till1913 when she moved to Hillsboro, Kansas, where she spent the last fifteen years of her earthly life.

She complained lately that she did not feel very well. Medical treatment seemed to bring relief when heart trouble set in suddenly and caused her death after seven days of illness. She passed away quietly ten minutes of welve at noon on the twenty-ninth day of June at the age of seventy-three years, three months and twenty days.

The deceased leaves to mourn her departure one sister, Mrs. Katy Robins, of Zion, Illinois, and eight children, all residing in Kansas: Mr. Peter Hanneman, of Peabody, Mrs. Martin Hein, of Hillsboro, Mrs. Peter Unruh, of Aulne, Mr. Henry Hanneman, of Walton, Miss Katie Hanneman, of Topeka, Mrs. Charles Friday, of Peabody, Mr. Abe Hanneman, of Peabody, and Mr. Herman Hanneman, of Hillsboro. Her husband and four children had passed away before her. — Hillsboro Star.
