JACOB BERNHARD HAMM

Jacob Bernhard Hamm, 66 went to his eternal rest on May 19 after several years of illness. He was born November 25, 1900 in Alexanderfeld, Sagradwoka, South Russia, the son of Bernhard Peter and Anna Sara Hamm. In 1925 he accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour and was accepted into the Mennonite Brethren church at Tiege after baptism that same year. He remained a true member of the church until his passing.

On July 2, 1925 he married Helena Loewen and in July, 1926 they emigrated to Canada. From this union were born two sons. However, in 1928 his first wife passed away followed during the next winter by his youngest son, Bernhard, who had been in the loving care of the Isbrand Riesens of Gem, Alberta.

The following fall, October 20, 1929 he entered into marriage the second time, this time with Anna Woelk of Beeehy, Sask, with whom he shared his remaining years. God blessed them with six children, one of whom, Jacob, predeceased their father in 1964. The family lived successively at Coaldale, Alta., Arnold, RC. and latterly at Clearbrook, B.C. Mr. Hamm reached his heavenly home after several difficult years of illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna; four sons: Henry of New Westminster, B.C., David of Richmond, B.C., Ernest of Prince George, BC. and Victor at home; two daughters: Mrs. John (Anne) Rempel of Arnold, B.C., and Mrs. C. M. (Esther) Hulburt of Vancouver, his daughters-in-law, and 15 grandchildren.
