He was married to Emma Catherine Snyder on Aug. 11, 1895 at Cullom. She passed away July 4, 1946. To this union were born 10 children, three of whom preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church.

He is survived by four sons, John S. and Jess Hamilton of Harper, Joe Hamilton of Idaho Springs, Colo., and Jim Hamilton of Elkhart, Kan.; three daughters, Phoebe and Hannah Hamilton of Harper and Ruth (Mrs. Perry Troyer) of Hutchinson, Kan.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church with Rev. Robert Zehr officiating. He read 1 John 1-10 which was one of James' favorite scriptures. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Cemetery.

During his recent illness he gave a wonderful testimony of the amazing grace of God, and he left us with a longing to go and be with the Lord. He assured us again and again that in His great mercy the Lord was with him and would be with him through the valley of the shadow of death. His prayer was that everyone would know that God is love and God is light.
