Services for Retired Berne Industrialist Held at Bluffton

Bluffton, Ohio. — Funeral services for Carl T. Habegger, 81, retired industrialist of Berne, Ind., were conducted at the First Mennonite Church here on May 22. He died at a Lima convalescent home on May 19 after some years of failing health.

A native of the Berne community, Mr. Habegger was a graduate of Oberlin College. In 1919 he joined the Berne Manufacturing Company, founded by his father, and eventually became manager and president. The clothing manufacturing firm later was known the Winner House.

Mr. Habegger was active in Berne civic organizations, and at one time served as president of the International Assn. of Garment Manufacturers, New York City. An excellent singer, he organized the “Winner Chords” and was a member of the Mennonite Men's Chorus of Berne.

Mr. and Mrs. Habegger moved to Bluffton in December 1966 to be near their daughter, Mrs. John (Christine) Purves.
