Farm Accident Fatal To Young Farmer

JUSTUS L GROSS OF EUREKA, ILL. FALLS 14 FEET FROM CONVEYOR

Metamora, Ill. — Funeral services for Justus I. Gross, 38, who was fatally injured in a farm accident June 24, were held at the Metamora Mennonite church Tuesday, June 29. Ministers in charge were LeRoy Kennel, Howard Zehr of Fisher and Jesse Short of Archbold, Ohio. Graveside services at Hickory Point cemetery were conducted by Edwin Stalter of Graymont.

Gross died at St. Francis hospital in Peoria on Sunday, June 27, three days after he fell about 14 feet from a corn conveyor at the Harley King farm west of Eureka. He had been helping store hay bales and was walking down the conveyor when he stumbled and fell to the barn floor. He did not regain consciousness.

A native of Roseland, Neb., he served in Civilian Public Service during World War II, and had farmed near here for the past seven years. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Bachman of Metamora, one daughter, Karen Ann, five sisters and four brothers.
