Accidents Take One Life, Injure Eleven in Lancaster County, Pa.

NINE CHILDREN AND DRIVER HURT WHEN SCHOOL BUS COLLIDES WITH MILK TRUCK

Smoketown, Pa. — A 14-year-old farm youth was killed in a tractor upset and 11 persons were injured in other accidents in the Lancaster County area within recent days.

Leon Graybill, son of Merven and Grace Graybill of Route 2, Mohnton, was crushed to death when the tractor he was operating overturned on an embankment while he was plowing at a neighbor's farm. A ninth grade pupil at the Garden Spot High school, he was a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite church, where funeral services were held May 21.

Head-On Crash

Nine children and the driver of a school bus were injured when the bus collided head-on with a loaded milk truck near Bird-in-Hand on Thursday morning, May 19. The accident occurred in heavy fog.

Lloyd Weaver, 48, was hauling 21 children to the Locust Grove Mennonite Grade school when the impact telescoped the left front of the bus. Fortunately it was not full and all of the children were seated toward the rear.

Most seriously hurt was Mervin Garman, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Garman, who sustained a fractured leg and punctured eye. Surgery was performed the same day to remove the eye. The other children were released after treatment.

Mrs. Lois Herr, 40, wife of Robert Herr of New Providence, underwent brain surgery May 18 to repair damage done in a head-on auto crash May 13. She was in critical condition, while her husband was listed as in satisfactory condition.
