ELISABETH GOERING GRABER

Elisabeth Goering Graber, daughter of John A. and Anna Graber Goering, was born at Wellington, Kansas July 26, 1883. Her childhood days were spent on a farm in Kingman county, Kansas. She received her early education in the public school in Murdock and in the church school at Pretty Prairie.

She was baptized upon the profession of her faith in Christ April 8, 1900, by Rev. J. J. Flickinger and was received into the fellowship of the First Mennonite church near Pretty Prairie in which she remained a faithful member until her death.

On Nov. 23, 1903, she was united in holy wedlock to Jacob B. Graber. This union was characterized by mutual love and devotion. They established their home in the Pretty Prairie community where they resided for over 51 years, sharing life’s joys and sorrows. To this union were born six children, two sons and four daughters. The family circle, which remained unbroken until her departure, was a happy one reflecting her Godly influence as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

A happy occasion for her transpired on Nov. 22, 1953, when, under the gracious providence o God, she was permitted to celebrate her golden wedding anniversary with her life companion and the family. That all the members of the family could be present for the occasion was a particular blessing for which she was very grateful to the Lord.

Her life was lived in a quiet but effective and consistent devotion to her Saviour. Her children have arisen to call her blessed. She was a constant source of comfort and inspiration to her husband in all the varied experiences of life. Her unselfish devotion as mother will always be cherished in the hearts of her children.

“O mother, when I think of thee,
'Tis but a step to Calvary.”

On the night of March 30, 1955, at 11:00 o’clock the angel of the Lord gently awoke her from natural sleep and said “the Master is come, and calleth for thee.” She answered the summons with the prayer, “Father into Thy hands I commend my spirit” and in a few minutes she passed on to her eternal reward.

She leaves to mourn her sudden departure her husband Jacob; six children, Martha, Mrs. Harvey L. Krehbiel, Albert, Frieda, Mrs. Marvin Schrag, Anna, Ella and John; two sons-in-law, Harvey L. Krehbiel and Marvin Schrag; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Albert Graber and Mrs. John Graber; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Jonas L. Goering, and one sister. Mrs. Ed P. Graber, as well as a host of relatives and friends.
