Death was due to a heart attack suffered while at the supper table. He had suffered much for over two years, but bore it all patiently. With all his pain and sickness, he was able to get about the house until the end.

He was united in marriage to Ruebeana Roth, and they lived in matrimony for 37 years. To this union were born seven sons and five daughters. He leaves to mourn his departure his bereft wife, two daughters, and seven sons: Daniel of Kalona, Iowa, Allen of Middlebury, Ind., Ezra of Mendon, Mich., Joseph, Ervin, Samuel, Floyd, Esther, and Ruby at home. Three daughters and one granddaughter died in infancy.

He also leaves eight grandchildren, and eight brothers and five sisters: Levi of Mylo, N. D., Albert of Middlebury, Daniel of Shipshewana, Ind., Henry of Nappanee, Ind., Peter, John, Amos, and William, all of Etna Green, Ind., Amanda, widow of Elmer Helmuth, of Wolford, N. D., Annie, wife of William Schweitzer, Lizzie, wife of Levi Bontrager, Lucy, wife of Mose Bontrager, all of Middlebury, Sarah, widow of Noah Gingerich, Goshen, Ind. One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

He accepted Christ in his youth and remained a faithful member of the Conservative Amish Mennonite church until his death.

The remains were laid to rest in the Miller cemetery, Middlebury.
