DEATH TAKES COMMUNITY LEADER

Steinbach, Man. — Funeral services were held at the E.M.B. church here Saturday afternoon, March 31, for John D. Goossen, many years a widely known community leader and secretary of the local municipality.

Mr. Goossen also held many other positions, such as trustee of the Steinbach schools and board member of the Children’s Aid Society of Eastern Manitoba. Death was due to an heart ailment. He was 66 years old.

STEINBACH, MANITOBA

April 4, 1951

John D. Goossen died at his home on Friesen avenue on March 28. His funeral took place or March 31 at the E.M.B. church with burial at the central cemetery. Mrs. Goossen had served in the capacity as secretary-treasurer of the Municipality of Hanover for 25 years. He held several other posts besides, such as notary public, etc.

Mourning his departure besides his numerous friends and acquaintances are his widow and five children. The sons are Abe of Toronto, Ernest who has a law practice in town, and Harvey at the University of Manitoba. His daughter Mary is a registered nurse at Bethesda hospital and Esther a dietitian in California. Mr. Goossen’s first serious illness began in August 9, 1950, a heart attack from which he never recovered fully.
