Henry P. Goossen

Henry P. Goossen died at his home here in the city Monday morning at the age of fifty-three years. Funeral services were held from the Bethel Church yesterday afternoon, and interment was made in the Mountain Lake cemetery. The deceased had been ailing for several years, and has spent various periods of time in the Hospital. During December, he spent several weeks in the Hospital, going home last week. just before his death, he seemed to be improving, and was in fairly good spirits on Sunday night.

He came to this country from Russia with his parents, when Mountain Lake was but a stopping station on the railroad. The family settled on a farm north of the village, but the grasshopper scourge forced the abandonment of the soil, and a residence was taken in Mountain Lake. The father became associated with Carl Penner in the blacksmithy, and several years later when Mr. Penner moved to the West Coast, Mr. Goossen became the sole owner. Here several of the boys, including Henry, spent their youth. The deceased attended the local school, and graduated from the eight grade. After the close of his school career, he taught for several years, both here and in Canada. When te position or rural mail carrier here was opened, he took the examination, and received the appointment. He served well for twenty-four years, and last summer, handed in his resignation whereupon he was placed upon a pension. Since that time, he has lived with his mother, his health continually failing until the peaceful end came. — Mt. Lake Observer.
