PIONEER OF MARION-FREEMAN, SO. DAKOTA VICINITY LAID TO REST

Marion, S. D. — Funeral services were held at the Silver Lake M.B. church near here for Gerhard Goossen, 83, pioneer settler of the Marion-Freeman community, who passed away Dec. 26, four days after suffering a broken hip.

A retired farmer and threshing machine operator, he came to the Dakota territory from Russia with his parents at the age of five. He retired from the farm and moved to Marion in 1944. His death broke a marriage relationship extending over a period of 57 years.
