DEATH CLAIMS TWO MT. LAKE MOTHERS

Mt. Lake, Minn., May 2 — Again it is our solemn duty to chronicle the departure of two of Mountain Lake’s mothers whose death is mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends. Just before going to press last week we received the report of the death of Mrs. P. G. Klassen, who passed away at her home Wednesday at 12:30 P. M. And on Saturday morning, April 27, at 5 o’clock, Mrs. Abr. Goossen was called into the Great Beyond at the local Hospital.

Mrs. Helena Klassen, nee Nickel, was born Feb. 1, 1861, in Rudunerweide, So. Russia. When she was 11 years of age she lost her mother thru death, and a year later her still living stepmother, Mrs. Theo. Nickel took care of her. In the year 1878 she accompanied her parents to this country, settling on a farm 5 miles southeast of Mt. Lake. She became the wife of Mr. P. G. Klassen March 28, 1883. After living 5 years on the parental farm, they moved on their own property 4 miles south of town. In October 1913 they moved to town.

In July, 1924, Mrs. Klassen suffered a stroke on the left side. Altho she regained strength slowly, another stroke in September 1928 weakened her condition considerably. The last 14 days she spent in bed. She reached an age of 68 years, 2 mo. and 11 days. The deceased was mother of 9 children who all but one son were present at the funeral, the one son, Aaron, living in Canada. She is survived by her husband, six sons, three daughters, 27 grandchildren, one great grandchild, her mother, one sister and 7 brothers.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Valley church. The speakers were the Rev. D. A. Regier, J. N. Wall, D. M. Hofer, Jac. Stoesz. Rev. D. P. Eizen speaking in the home.

Mrs. Anna Goossen

Mrs. Anna Goossen, nee Epp, was born August 16, 1870, in Gnadental, S. Russia, where she spent the first six years of her life. In 1876 her parents moved America. They settled 12 miles north of Windom on a quarter section of land. On Feb. 26, 1891 she became the wife of Mr. Abr. Goossen. This union was blessed with fifteen children; of these 13 are surviving her, six sons and seven daughters. Besides these 16 grandchildren are surviving her, 3 sisters and 4 brothers, one half-sister and many relatives and friends.

The family lived 29 years on the parental farm 7 miles northeast of Mt. Lake. After this they moved to town since Mrs. Goossen was suffering of exema and later of gallstone. Her recent operation at the hospital was successful but other complications, heart trouble and pneumonia, robbed her of her resistance and she passed away on Saturday. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the First Mennonite church. The Rev. Is. J. Dick and J. J. Balzer were officiating. — Mt. Lake View.
