Former Bethel College Student Killed in Oil Well Accident

CHESTER GOOD, 23, FATALLY BURNED WHEN OIL-DRENCHED CLOTHES CATCH FIRE

Pratt, Kansas. — Chester Ralph Good, 23, died at a hospital here Friday, July 18, as the result of severe burns which he suffered while engaged in pulling casing at the Jackson oil test two miles east of Iuka.

The young man died soon after he was brought to the hospital.

It is believed that accumulated gas in the casing was ignited by the nearby engine. From this blaze the young man's oil-drenched clothes immediately caught fire and he was burned beyond hope of recovery.

Born at Las Vegas, N. M., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. A. Good, Chester came to Kansas with his parents at the age of 12 united with the West Liberty Mennonite church near Windom. Later he moved to Burrton and then attended the First Christian church there.

After graduating from the Burrton high school in 1937, he attended Bethel College at Newton for one year.

On May 23, 1940, he was united in marriage to Verna Fast of Hutchinson. To this union one son, Larry Ralph, was born.

Mr. good is survived by his wife and infant son; also by his parents, Mr. and mrs. Chas. A. Good, now of Peabody, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian church at Burrton.
