J. H. Goerz

R. A. Goerz received word Saturday, May 10, of the death of his brother, J. H. Goerz, who died Saturday morning at his home in Philadelphia following an illness of a month.

Mr. Goerz went to Philadelphia at the time his brother was stricken, spending a week with him, but he never regained consciousness and his condition has remained practically the same since, until just a short time before his death.

J. H. Goerz was 58 years of age. He is a former Harvey county resident and also lived in Newton. He was employed at the Midland National bank for a number of years, previous to 1896 when he went to New York City. He was born in South Russia, but was brought by his parents to Summerfield, Ill., when he was a year old. The family moved to Halstead when he was three years old and later they moved to Newton.

He became associated with the trust department of the Girard Trust company 32 years ago, and at the time of his death had entire charge of the department.

His wife, who was a Philadelphia girl, died about a year ago, and the only member of his immediate family remaining is a daughter, Mrs. Helen Rhoades of Glenside, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs. Bernard Krehbiel of Halstead, Mrs. J. P. Isaac of Glendale, Calif., Robert Goerz and Mrs. H. J. Kaufman of Upland, Calif., O. D. and W. R. of Los Angeles and R. A. Goerz of this city.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 13.
