FRANK DAVID GOERTZEN

Frank David Goertzen passed away Aug. 8. He was born Feb. 15, 1897 to Frank and Katharina Goertzen in Gnadenheim, Molotschna. When he was 3, they moved to Neu-Samara. Here he accepted the Lord, was baptized and joined Lugovsk MB Church. He served as a medical orderly in the army 1918-22. In 1923 he married Nela Thiessen. In 1926 they immigrated to Canada, settling on a farm near Janzen, Sask. After 8 years, they moved to Hespeler, Ont., where Nela died in 1942, following a lengthy illness. He married Helen Neufeld of Virgil, Ont. in 1946, and she became a mother to his 5 children. They moved to a farm near St. Catharines, which they enjoyed until retiring to Virgil in 1967. In 1986 they moved to an apartment in Pleasant Manor. Predeceased by his first wife Nela, son David in 1988 and a great-granddaughter in 1989, he is mourned by his wife Helen; sons John and Frank and daughters Nellie Voth and Katie Quiring, all of Virgil; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 1 brother and 1 sister. The funeral was Aug. 11 in Virgil MB Church, with Walter Bergman and George Wichert ministering.
