ABRAHAM GOERTZ

Abraham Goertz, son of Rev. Peter Goertz and Marie Unruh, was born May 28, 1895, near Inman, McPherson county, Kansas. Here he also attended Lakeshore district school, receiving his elementary education.

When he reached the age of accountability, he felt the need of a personal Saviour. After having received catechism instructions from Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff, he was baptized on his birthday, May 28, 1917, upon the confession of this faith in Jesus as his personal Saviour by Rev. P. H. Richert and accepted as a member into the Hopefield Mennonite church. He remained a faithful member or [sic] this church till the day of his departure to his heavenly home.

Mr. Goertz had been living in California for some time when he became seriously ill. It was nearing Thanksgiving Day when he was taken to the Tulare, California, hospital and had to undergo a major operation. At first it seemed as though he might get well again but the Lord found best to take him to his home above. Thus he quietly passed to his reward on January 29, 1944. He had assurance that he was ready to meet Christ in whom he put his faith and trust. We mourn, but not without hope of meeting again in the presence of Christ, our Savior. We do not say "goodby" but merely "Till we meet again."

He leaves to mourn his early departure his mother, Marie Goertz, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bergman, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Goertz, Hillsboro; Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Goertz, Moundridge; Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Goertz, McPherson; Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Goertz, Durham; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Goertz, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Goertz, Sardis, B. C.; Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Goertz, Carnduff, Sask.; Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Goertz, Roscoe, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Joel L. Schmidt, Waldheim, Sask.; Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Ewert, Carnduff, Sassk.; Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Kehler, Steinbach, Manitoba.

Mr. Goertz reached the age of 48 years, 8 months and one day.

Be still my Soul. The Lord is on thy side
Oh, bear patiently the cross of grief and pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide
In every change He faithful will remain.

The body of Mr. Goertz was sent from California and funeral services were held at the Hopeview church, southeast of Inman, Friday afternoon, Feb. 11, at 3:00 o'clock. Burial in the cemetery.
